BELLEVUE, WA – In what may be an effort to raise his political profile, State Rep. Willis E. Blackshear Jr.—a candidate in the 6^th District State Senate race—has come up with a new term to demonize semiautomatic firearms, but it still won’t fool Buckeye State voters, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms says.

Blackshear, a Dayton Democrat, now calls modern rifles “mass casualty weapons,” as though the gun, rather than some deranged criminal who might create mayhem, is somehow responsible for a hideous crime. According to a news release from his office, his bill is a response to a tragic 2019 shooting in Dayton’s Oregon district.

“This is just another attempt by a politician running for higher office to make a campaign headline, while using new terminology to alarm or even terrify the public,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. “It has been nearly five years since killer Connor Betts was fatally shot by police, bringing an end to his senseless rampage, but instead of pointing to his deranged fantasies about mass shootings, his far left political leanings and his sympathies for Antifa, Blackshear focuses on the firearm the madman used.

“Let’s see now,” Gottlieb continued. “The gun prohibition movement has tried the terms ‘assault weapons’ and ‘weapons of war,’ and even ‘weapons of mass destruction.’ Now, all of a sudden, Rep. Blackshear has come up with something new to incite the same old anxieties anti-gunners have always had over the fact that Americans like firearms and dislike the efforts to ban them.

“Why did it take Blackshear all this time to introduce his bill,” he wondered. “Could it have anything to do with the fact that he’s in a three-way race for the state Senate position against two other Democrats who also favor restrictive gun laws, and he wants a headline?

“In the final analysis,” Gottlieb concluded, “Blackshear wants to ban a certain class of firearms which are enormously popular and commonly-owned, not just in Ohio but across the country. He can call them whatever provocative name he wants, but it still comes down to a gun ban effort. Perhaps instead of guns, Blackshear should focus on getting rid of criminals. That would be an effort Buckeye State gun owners could get behind.”

BELLEVUE, WA – Near the end of his extremely partisan State of the Union address, President Joe Biden declared his vision for the future to “restore the right to choose and protect other freedoms, not take them away,” but that obviously doesn’t include choosing to own firearms, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms stated in response.

“Joe Biden told that fib several minutes after demanding a ban on an entire class of firearms, which happen to be in common use across the country,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. “He claimed that his lifetime has taught him to embrace freedom and democracy, but that obviously doesn’t include the freedom to keep and bear arms.

“He boasted about creating an office of ‘gun violence prevention,’ which translates to the first-ever White House office of gun control and citizen disarmament,” the veteran gun rights advocate noted. “It’s a thinly-disguised mini-bureaucracy whose only possible function is to lobby for more restrictive gun laws.

“He claims that banning guns doesn’t violate the Second Amendment or vilify responsible gun owners,” Gottlieb continued. “The hell it doesn’t. Millions of honest American men and women of all races and political backgrounds have already embraced the freedom to choose what constitutionally-protected firearms they want to responsibly own, and along comes Biden with a demand that those arms be banned.

“This president vilifies gun owners every time he demands new restrictions on Second Amendment rights because he’s literally telling a hundred-million citizens he doesn’t trust them,” he observed. “He claimed his lifetime has taught him to respect everyone, but he obviously doesn’t mean America’s gun owners, because his entire political career has focused on disrespecting their rights, banning the guns they own and diminishing their freedom.

“President Biden has a history of telling whoppers,” Gottlieb stated, “and his State of the Union campaign speech certainly held to that tradition where gun rights are concerned. He may have fooled Democrats in Congress and his media cheerleaders, but he didn’t fool American gun owners.”

CO SB24-066 would create a tracking system that would require coding of firearm and firearm accessory sales. Anyone refusing to comply would be fined $10,000 per violation by the “exclusive authority” of the attorney general or his underlings.

The goal of this bill is to create a de facto firearms registry, to track every sale and purchase and keep tabs on buyers and sellers alike.

The only purpose for a registry is eventual confiscation.

BELLEVUE, WA – A new survey by The Economist and YouGov shows only 29 percent of Americans approve of Joe Biden’s performance on guns, and the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms says a detailed examination of polling data shows the president is in big trouble on the issue.

According to polling data, 81 percent of survey respondents say guns are an important issue. Not surprisingly, only five percent of Republicans and 24 percent of Independents approve of Biden’s gun policies, while 88 percent of Republicans, 52 percent of Independents and 26 percent of Democrats disapprove of his performance, and a whopping 90 percent of people who plan to vote for Donald Trump disapprove of Biden’s gun policies, the survey revealed.

In addition, 59 percent of men and 50 percent of women disapprove of his performance on guns, and he fails in three of four age categories, 30-44 (57%), 45-64 (57%) and 65+ (60%). Liberals like his policies (55%) but moderates (34%) and conservatives (8%), not so much. Indeed, 83 percent of conservatives and 47 percent of moderates disapprove of the way Biden is handling the gun issue, according to the survey.

“These are eye-opening numbers which squarely put Joe Biden standing in the corner wearing a dunce cap when it comes to guns,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. “It should be noted this survey was done before White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre blamed the murder of New York police officer Jonathan Diller on so-called ‘gun violence’ instead of admitting that Democratic Party policies that allowed a repeat offender, with 21 prior arrests, to be on the street might have something to do with the tragedy.

“What’s worse for Biden,” Gottlieb continued, “is that he got lower numbers on only one other subject, immigration. It seems obvious that the president is horribly out of touch with the public on two critical issues. The survey underscores Joe Biden’s total disregard for constitutional rights and border security, and it also reflects how Democrats (56%) are far more likely to approve of his restrictive gun policies than Republicans and Independents.

“Joe Biden’s obsession with restricting or banning popular firearms has him at odds with a majority (54%) of Americans,” Gottlieb observed. “Gun rights versus gun control will likely be a major reason why people head for the polls in November.”

BELLEVUE, WA – The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms denounced the White House plan to expand background checks to close supposed “loopholes” that the Biden administration claims exist in private gun sales and transfers.

The announcement is yet another step by Joe Biden to eviscerate Americans’ right to keep and bear arms that is guaranteed by the Second Amendment, the group stated.

“This is another misguided policy that will not accomplish what the administration claims its goal is,” said CCRKBA Managing Director Andrew Gottlieb. “It will not reduce violent crime or make anyone safer. It is an infringement on the rights of honest citizens and a distraction from policies that target criminals.”

The administration aims to close so-called “loopholes” in the background check system, but CCRKBA says these policies only create more red tape and expense for gun owners without addressing the real problems.

“Piling more restrictions and costs on law-abiding Americans will not curb violence,” Gottlieb said. “Violent criminals don’t follow any rules. They do not bother with background checks. This administration should instead focus its efforts on prosecuting those who break existing laws.”

Under current law, background checks are required for all gun sales through licensed dealers, even at gun shows and online. The Biden plan would require background checks for all private sales and transfers, including those between family and friends, and in some cases even loans and gifts. There is no evidence such a plan would reduce violence, Gottlieb said.

The administration is also asking Congress for a 33 percent budget increase for the ATF in 2025 to hire more agents and inspectors. This would increase their budget to $2 billion dollars per year.

BELLEVUE, WA – Washington State Democrats are dropping any pretenses about their disdain for the gun rights of Evergreen State citizens by hosting gun ban advocate David Hogg at a May 5 Seattle fund raiser, at a location they are unwilling to publicly reveal, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms noted.

“They are obviously fearful of protest by Second Amendment activists so they’re keeping the location secret,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. “Democrats are co-hosting this event with the Seattle-based Alliance for Gun Responsibility, the billionaire-backed gun prohibition lobbying group. Naturally, they are asking for donations ranging from $100 to $5,000.”

The announcement came from Shasti Conrad, chair of the Washington State Democrats. They identify Hogg as a “nationwide leader in gun safety advocacy” when all he has promoted is restrictive gun control.

“How much money from this event will go to anti-gun Attorney General Bob Ferguson’s campaign to be the next governor,” Gottlieb wondered. “How much will help fund state legislative campaigns for anti-gunners? Will any of this money be used to promote laws to lock up violent criminals?

“In her message,” he observed, “Conrad acknowledges that gun control is ‘a key issue for Democrats in 2024.’ They claim Washington is a ‘nationwide leader’ in gun control efforts, so maybe the Democrats will explain why the number of homicides in Washington has doubled over the past ten years, and tripled during the same period in Seattle, when all of these new gun laws were promoted as ways to reduce violent crime.

“From any rational perspective,” Gottlieb said, “that is a record of absolute failure. Washington Democrats are self-delusional to argue that gun control has been a success, unless they think disarming honest citizens, while the body count rises, is some kind of moral victory. Evidently moral victories are more important to anti-gun Washington Democrats than locking up criminals and saving lives.”
